Jocelyn Brown was the best birth investment we could have made. It was not clear to us in the beginning just how much we would come to use her knowledge and expertise. We were nervous, excited, first time parents-to-be and met Jocelyn through a recommendation from a local midwifery school. From the very first meeting, Jocelyn put us at ease. She was always available to us to answer any questions (from serious to “off the wall”), and was a valuable combination of frank and reassuring.
Jocelyn walked us through the birth planning process, and we outlined exactly how we wished our son’s birth to be carried out (without medical intervention if at all possible). Labor was particularly long-roughly 36 hours. Throughout the entire process, Jocelyn supported us in a multitude of ways, suggesting different positions, initiating walks or rest periods, and giving much-needed pep talks. I have no doubt that without her calm reassurance and knowledge of the birthing process, we would have ended up at the hospital hours earlier and, given the length of labor, would likely have had interventions. We cannot emphasize enough how, through Jocelyn’s support and insight, our child was born precisely according to our wishes. We are planning to have another child sometime in the future, and we can say with 100% certainty that Jocelyn is the person we want with us when this happens. –Nate and Emily
